I think you may have a partial install of IE5.5. Check out the two
screenshots of IE5.5 and IE6.0 running side-by-side:
http://www.legalanarchy.com/ie5.5.gif
http://www.legalanarchy.com/ie6.gif
They definitely show a very different rendering by the two browsers of
the OPTGROUP tag.
In Steve's most recent post, he mentioned the need to copy over the
MSHTML.TLB and MSHTML.DLL files to your install directory. Otherwise,
it seems that IE5.5 would try to use the DLLs installed for IE6 to
render things.
>From what I can tell, IE5.5 is working as expected. Peekaboo doesn't
happen for me. The font-variant: small-caps CSS style renders
differently in IE5.5 and IE6 (something that MSDN mentions as being in
the update to IE6), and the OPTGROUP stuff is working only in IE6.
Also, IE5.01 seems to be working as such for me as well. I don't have a
lot of tests that can tell the difference, but at the very least, only
IE5.5 and IE6+ render things in
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/samples/author/dhtml/refs/scrollbarCo
lor.htm correctly for me. IE5.01 doesn't render or change the scrollbar
colors correctly when I view this page.
