My two bits is that this would be an interesting exercise to report back to
the list with, but hard to justify as a lengthy debate on-list. This seems
to ask whether to apply CSS or JS, rather than how to apply CSS. We should
probably try to avoid stating opinions about one technique over the other,
and keep ourselves to identifying the how browsers behave with each
technique.
I can see the results being of practical interest, however, as an
alternative to the pure CSS options of FIR or the overflow technique for
people who want an alternative. Just my thoughts.
It's kinda funny, though -- if CSS vs. JS is off-topic, how about a
question about the topicality of a CSS vs. JS question? ;)
