i want the midCol to be fixed because i want to duplicate the client's
original design (bad as it is) precisely, other wise i get complaints.
altho when i try it with width removed the midcolumn just spreads out
across the page to the right. i guess this is a manifestation of the
problem i have even when i keep the width, that is, the mid column
slides under the right column when i resize. now this is in Moz 1.4,
which is my primary browser, and in which otherwise everything looks
just fine.
so i have been trying many permutations of floats and positions, etc.
to figure that one out. no luck.

(now in IE6) that does move the column down, but then the "banner" div
in the header drops too. and also the left column moves up over the
logo image. it seems like all of these are caused by whatever makes
the banner dropdown, but maybe not. my goal would be of course to have
all the columns even at the top. the red line is even with the bottom
edge of the logo, and the H1 sits right on top of the left end of the
line.

oh, and the bullet discs don't show up in IE6!

as i said i am duplicating what was handed to me, i would change a lot
if it were up to me. but then if it were up to me i would not try for
precision and just oh, screw it it looks good this way. so the
educational challenge at this point is to gain enough control to
whatever i want.

i think i am a long way off from checking it in IE5, etc. although it
does look almost correct in Opera 7.

when you chekc the site, which i hope you can do, you will see i've
used the proper h1, h2 structure , and deadened the links.

thanks so much. i know its a dumb site but better to learn on this and
get the basics. and BTW i do not post without having put much time
into trying to work this out myself.
