Putting layers inside of tables

Sent by Julian on 29 September 2003 19:07

I don't think there is anything wrong with it at all. For example, some people have not fully
adopted CSS-only layout and will use a basic table-based layout for starters. For example, 2x2
table where the top row contains single spanned cell as a masthead, on the second row, the left
cell containing the navbar and the right cell containing the content - pretty standard format all
along. Within any or all of the three cells, one can put <div>s to divide up the various sections.
I have done that in the past when there was poor support for positional CSS and encountered no
problems.

I have read in several places that it is ok to put tables within layers but
that it is NOT a good idea to put layers inside of tables. I would dearly
love to know why this is. Can anybody explain to me why layers within
tables is not a good idea?
