At the U of L Faculty of Management, we have found them to be VERY useful.

This summer, we completely redesigned our website so that we tried to stick
to current web standards and so that we separated style from content. This
has being very useful on many levels, but one way it has been useful is
through printing.

Members of our Faculty are constantly printing out our website and with our
new design, I can control which elements are printed and which are not. For
example, the user does not need the menus on the page they print or the
footer. They don't even need the FIR technique I use. So, all of these
things are hidden when they press print. The print stylesheets also overcome
printing issues such as content being cut-off on the right.

Another benefit is that I don't need to increase the amount of space I sue
on the server by having separate printer-friendly pages for the 2000 pages
on our website. It is also more convenient for the user since it takes less
effort for them to print than it would if they had to go to a different page
for a printer friendly version.

In short, I'm all for print stylesheets, but make sure your site is designed
to take full advantage of them.
