does CSS slow down page rendering?

Sent by Gilbert Lee on 10 September 2003 18:06

We are having some debate here at our office about the page rendering in CSS. I am trying to
convince the designers and developers that CSS is the way to go and that we should get rid of tables
for positioning. We've transformed our "template" (we're creating a huge web application) into CSS
but people have noticed that the rendering was slow compared to when it was in the tables. Does
anyone have evidence that CSS renders code faster? I really need some advice, articles or pointers
so I can convince others that CSS is the way to go. Our requirements are IE 5.5 (PC).
