tables and css

Sent by Aaron on 7 September 2003 18:06

Hi,
I just rejoined the list.

I have tables with data and I am trying to get the columns to have
different background colors.

Boy am I confused. First of all after reading col and colgroup in html
4.0. I am not sure how to use them.

Then when I do use them I can't seem to make the css affect them at all.

I did trick it a bit by adding an id or class to the col but it didn't
work for the background color.

I saw that the there is some layering model. so I tried
bacground:transparent; for everything in the table except for the col.
But no dice??

Obviously I just don't understand how this works.
Can someone help me either with a link to a clearer explaination of how
the html 4.0 table works with css.
I am referring to the mozilla sidebar css 2.0 and html4.0 reference.
Thanks
Aaron
