    Thanks for the detective work, as disappointing as the results are. It
sounds as though the html element has a square canvas in IE 5/Mac, whether
or not that canvas is fully visible.
     But let me ask: what happens in IE 5/Mac when you remove the html
element from the style declaration, so that only the body element (in
addition to the div) is assigned a height of 100%?
