I really don't want to fan the flames of a font sizes war, but I also have
found this to be the case. I had a site that specified fonts only in em
units (the base font for this particular site was set at 1em). A novice
computer users looked at the site in his AOL browser and asked me why the
fonts were so small. It turned out the text size setting in his copy of IE
was set to "smaller."
My question for those that are using relative font sizes is, how do you
deal with this? Just assume anyone who thinks your fonts are too small
will know how to change them in their browser? My assumption is that
novice users (like the one I worked with) will shrug, think the font is too
small, and then move on to a different web site.
