[css-d] Rollover images

Sent by Brendan MacLean on 10 February 2003 14:02

Hi,
I have a problem with image rollovers on the a site I am working on.
It's been hard work getting the site to work without tables, but I've
managed it and last time I looked it all validated as xhtml 1.0. The
client has insisted we use gifs for the menus so that we can incorporate
a non standard font (Myriad) and therefore I have used javascript to
make rollovers work (I can't repeat the language they used when I
breached the subject of accessibility). Anyway, you can see that version
here: http://www.w2net.co.uk/angelamortimer/new2/ It works in pretty
much everything (Netscape 4.xx is a separate issue and will remain so
for now).
However, I have endeavoured to get the rollovers to function using css
and no javascript. I have placed my efforts so far here:
(http://www.w2net.co.uk/angelamortimer/new2/index2.html). It works very
badly in IE6 WinXP and not at all in Moz 1.2.1 or Opera 7 so I presume
I'm doing something very wrong or that it just isn't going to work
properly using this method. Is there a way of doing this consistently,
and across all decent browsers using only css or shall I just give up
the ghost and settle for using javascript?
For quick reference, the relevant stylesheets are here respectively:

Thanks for any help
Bren
