A valid reason for NN4's refusal to die on old hardware is that
v4.5(ish?) supports LDAP. SFAIK none of the lightweight alternatives do.
A good many establishments use LDAP directories for storing contact info
and hence continue to use NN4 as their primary browser and mail client
on old machines. You'd be amazed how much ancient underpowered hardware
is still doing serious daily work out there.
