Safari has bugs just like Mac IE (and every other browser). Since they
have comparable CSS support, either one or even both may be wrong.

A font-size of x-large doesn't mean you'll get "16" anything. It
varies. Incidentally, the "1pt" border can vary in size as well. If
you want a certain number of pixels, your best bet is to specify the
size in pixels. Even pixels can be resized, but you can always be sure
one pixel is equal to one pixel.

A more complete example would help with the 30px problem you're
having.
