Re: [css-d] What happened to design?

Sent by Jim Barricks on 25 January 2002 17:05

The problems with designing a web site with CSS from my limited point of
view is the lack of universally standard codes for all browsers. When I
first started my web sites last year I was delighted to learn what could be
done...UNTIL I found what a difference was shown between IE, Netscape &
Opera current versions (let alone the older versions). As I started backing
off my beautiful designs one at a time so they would work with all
browsers, I got discouraged. I now run 8 web sites from 3 CSS scripts with
about 1/2 of what I could do if standards were used by all browsers.
Luckily I found that of my 3100 average daily visitors about 85.8% are IE
and11.4% are Netscape so I code to look real good on IE, fair for Netscape
and ignore the rest. Someday ...oh well, we continue to dream on.

Thanks & best,
Jim Barricks
