FW: [css-d] What happened to design?

I think since we have seen most of the CSS layouts as blogs everyone has
been copying that idea. I find myself challenging old HTML rules in order to
break out of that "blog" like design. Lately when I design a site I think
about how I can code it to best use the content with CSS rules. A perfect
example is a newspaper. A fixed width site makes since for many newspapers
to keep a column feel to them. I have been thinking about taking that a step
further and using CSS to allow more content to be placed "above the fold" on
the site if the window was expanded. Because I cannot layout tables side by
side I could use CSS to perform the tricks I want to.

One of the major problems is CSS is still new. And any exposure newbies have
to it is through blog like designs. I think in time it will grow, but we
need some good designs and uses of it to do that.
