You may be interested in [Taming Lists].  I, for one, think that dynamic 
menus are best left to ECMAScript for actuating, but I certainly endorse the 
use of CSS to get the actual (shown) content in the visual format desirable.

That's a topic for a Holy War, so let's not go there.
