Thanks to all who responded about my footer positioning. It turns out
that it is NOT enough to define
DIV#left {float : left}
DIV#right {float : right; align : top}
DIV#clear {clear : both}
I also had to define the width for #left and #right otherwise
DIV#right was placed under DIV#left (although it was right aligned)
