make no such assumptions. for example, here's a screenshot of my valid
xhtml 1.1 site in the latest version of ie (5.5?) in macos9.

but it looks fine in osx. go figure. and since i don't have a mac to test
with, i have no idea how to even begin fixing it or what is even causing the
problem.
