[css-d] Hide my css from old browsers

Sent by Emily Brandel on 4 November 2002 17:05

Ok, thanks to all of you who checked out this site and told me how hideous
it looks in NN 4.7, etc. So, I plan to make some changes to that entry page
(that's another story I think), but I want advice on how to proceed on the
rest. I THINK, that I want to give a styless version to browsers that can't
handle it, along with a 1) description of how the site is still accessible
to them and 2) link and info on how to upgrade their browser. This is a
commericial site and I don't want to scare folks off too much, but I also
don't want to bow to forces that require coding for every stinking browser
out there...I figure I need some javascript for this but there is alot of
"controversy" on how to detect browsers due to inadequate information
provided by the browsers themselves, and advice (from a javascript forum)
that was given to me was to use objects to detect certain javascript
features, but that is not my problem so much as the style sheet issue. Any
suggestions for hinding my css? Or if should take another angle
alltogether?

P.S. Thanks for all the help in the past. When I get better with all this I
hope to return the favor!
