In the time it took for our exchange, IE6 has probably picked up 1000
new users. In the real world, it would seem to be that the type of
issues that could actually break a design in IE5-PC should probably not
be used. As for sites that cater to developers, I think PVII is a good
example. Here's what we have for August (1million+ page views):
MSIE6: 74%
MSIE5.5: 16%
MSIE5: 3% (probably all Macs)
Netscape 6: 2%
Netscape 4: 1%
Netscape 6: <1%
Netscape 7: <1%
Opera: <1%
What's interesting is that if we go back to April, IE5x did account for
over 50% of our audience.
I know you are meaning well, but I think it could be a waste of time.
If you want to go pedal to the metal with CSS than IE5 shouldn't concern
you. It would be like me losing sleep because of Opera's DOM issues or
Mozilla's DHTML/image rendering issues. It's easier to walk around the
jungle than to hack through it sometimes. Just sometimes :-)
