[css-d] Authoring Tool Advice

Sent by Peterson, Jean on 20 September 2002 19:07

I'm not sure if this is appropriate to ask here, but I'm looking for a
specific kind of web-authoring tool and am hoping that you guys can help me
out. If you think that it is too off-topic and would like to discuss it with
me, please feel free to write me off-list.

I'm pretty new to creating websites, but like to code by hand in order to
really understand what I'm doing. Up to now I've used Wordpad. But in
looking at the page sources for websites, they are shown in a neatly-ordered
structure using color and caps. I think it would be extremely helpful if my
code could look like this while I edit it, but I don't want to use Word or
another more complex word processor for fear of all the "helpful" things
they will add to my code.

Does anyone know of an editor they'd recommend that automatically shows your
code in a similar way to Page Source view and that's good for coding by
hand?

Thank you,
Jean Peterson
