[css-d] to float or not, etc

Sent by Joe Howley on 31 January 2002 18:06

Well, I've been learning all sorts of lovely things about float via this
list, but I must be missing something (guess I'll have to go buy Eric's
book...).

I'm running into a problem here. I hope you can see what I'm trying to do -
four curvy imges, and I'd like one in each corner of the page. It seemed to
me that float would be the best way to do this, but they seem to be messing
about with the #main layer (on IE5/win). Furthermore, they fall to two
lines when the window is thinner than 600 instead of overlapping. position:
relative; seems to be the position value that makes it work. Basically, I
want the four images to stick to the corners, but sit in the background and
not cause trouble.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the desired result (or any
element of my code, I guess)? NN4 compatibility would be nice, but
standards compliance is more important to me.

(html doesn't validate, i know... need a doctype...)

Thanks,
===
